The liquor shelves, ravaged by the raccoon
According to the authorities, the raccoon broke several bottles and allegedly tasted various drinks before falling flat on the floor. In a post on social media, officials said they took the “heavily intoxicated” animal to a shelter to sober up before being released into the wild.
“On Saturday morning, Agent Martin responded to an unusual call at the ABC store in Ashland. Upon arrival, she discovered that the 'suspect' had broken in, knocked over several shelves, and then…fallen asleep in the bathroom. Suspect? An extremely drunk raccoon.” the Hanover County Animal Shelter and Protection Service said in a Facebook post.
According to animal control, Agent Martin safely retrieved the “masked bandit” and transported him to the shelter to wake him up before “interrogation.”
“After a few hours of sleep and no signs of injury (other than maybe a serious hangover and some very poor life choices), the raccoon was released into the wild, hopefully learning that breaking and entering is not the answer. Kudos to Agent Martin for her professional — and humorous — handling of this chaotic scene. Just another day in the life of the team at Hanover Animal Protection!” the institution's representatives sent in the same post.
