The students from Câmpina municipality and from 12 other Prahov localities do their classes online during the week of December 2-5, because they do not have drinking water or a maid in a centralized system. Education Minister Daniel David says the lack of potable water makes it impossible to hold classes safely, and a decision for next week will be made after an analysis with local authorities.
It is about the students from the schools of Câmpina, Breaza, Băicoi, Adunați, Cornu, Poiana Câmpina, Șotrile, Bănești, Brebu, Telega, Florești, Vărbilău and Aluniș, the courses will be held online, the Prahova County School Inspectorate announced on Sunday, in an information on the Facebook page.
Daniel David: “You can't go to school without drinking water”
The Minister of Education, Daniel David, told Digi24 on Tuesday that schools in the localities affected by the water crisis will remain online until the end of this week.
It is not known when the students will return to the banks. There will be an analysis to see what happens from next week.
“The information is that by the end of the week, for sure, after that we will do an analysis, we will see what the authorities that practically respond to this issue tell us, and we will decide for next week, in one form or another. For now, sure, until the end of the week, the courses are online, given that, after all, it is important to carry out the educational process safely”, said the minister, on Digi24.
Daniel David explained that the lack of drinking water made it impossible to keep schools open.
“There is no way you can be at school in an institution for so many hours without access to drinking water, no matter what fireworks we have found with bottled water or other alternatives. It is safer that this week the children do their education online and, I repeat, we will communicate what will happen next week, when we will have more information,” said the minister.
Minister David also stated that schools and students have experience with online teaching and have the necessary resources to continue classes in this format.
“We went through online education during the pandemic, for a longer period of time. The schools have the necessary equipment, the children have access to the tools. If there are problems, they will be reported. So far, we have not received reports from parents or teachers that there are problems,” said Daniel David.
The water crisis in Prahova and Dâmbovița
More than 100,000 people from Prahova and Dâmboviţa have not received water in the centralized system since Friday, after the water in the Paltinu dam rose by approximately 12 meters, and the water still cannot be properly treated to become potable.
People receive drinking and household water from tankers brought by the fire brigade and authorities, and on Sunday the decision was made that they will receive 200,000 liters of water from the state reserve.
On Sunday evening, Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan stated that, “after the resumption of water supply as soon as possible, those who generated this crisis downstream of the Paltinu reservoir must answer for the shortcomings created”.
