Secretary of State Pavel Niţulescu from the Ministry of Energy declared on Tuesday, in Ploieşti, that the energy produced by the Brazi plant, stopped due to the Paltinu water crisis, will be supplied from other sources, and the Paroşeni plant and another group at CEO Oltenia will be started, reports Agerpres.

“We have energy produced on the coal side, which at the moment is sufficient. We only operate with three groups on coal, from tomorrow we will also start the power plant from Paroşeni, another group at CEO Oltenia. So it will be supplemented with at least 300 megawatts, plus the hydroelectric energy part, which is sufficient. The reserve in the energy lakes, at the national level, exceeds 72%, and the flow of the Danube, fortunately for us, it is quite high, over 5,000 meters per second, so Iron Gates 1 and 2 can go to the maximum capacity forecasted during this period. So, from the point of view of the national energy system, we even have a surplus of energy produced at certain times of the day. We consume, indeed, at the peak of the evening, about 8,000 megawatts, but the energy is provided both from our own production and from energy imports, which is contracted commercially”, specified Pavel Niţulescu, in a press statement held in Ploiesti.

According to him, the Brazi plant will be shut down until next week.

“The Brazi refinery will be functional and will operate even in normal parameters, and from next week, from Monday, at the latest on Tuesday morning, the Brazi plant will also be able to operate in normal parameters and deliver 800 MWh to the energy system”, explained the official of the Ministry of Energy.

Prahova prefecture announced on Tuesday that the first possible measures to remedy the situation at the Brazi refinery due to the water crisis would be for Termo Ploiesti and Apa Nova to supply water as support at this time.

“This morning, the prefect of Prahova county contacted the director of OMV Petrom, identifying the first possible remedial measures, as follows: 1. Termo Ploieşti to provide the necessary support, providing demineralized water in the amount of 100 m3/h (starting from tonight at 24:00 or at the latest from tomorrow morning, at 6:00 a.m.). This amount can replace about 30% of what is needed for operation The Brazi Refinery 2. SC Apa Nova is analyzing the granting of a support by which an additional 150 m3/h of water can be distributed for the operation of the Brazi Refinery”, according to an information posted on the Prahova Prefecture's Facebook page.
