In addition to the ceremony, an important element of this day is the payment of the St. Barbara's Day award, which in many companies is treated as a fixed part of remuneration. The amount of this award usually corresponds to the employee's monthly salary, although the details of its calculation vary depending on the company and applicable wage agreements.
Polska Grupa Górnicza (PGG) confirmed that it will pay St. Barbara's Day awards. PGG employees can count on an amount close to their monthly salary, amounting to approximately PLN 12,000. PLN gross. This payment is in line with previous wage arrangements, writes the Dziennik.pl portal.
Similar information came from KGHM, where employees employed for at least 12 months can count on a bonus equal to their monthly salary, calculated according to the rules applicable to holiday pay. People with shorter work experience will receive a proportional share of the award.
Południowy Koncern Węglowy announced that it would also pay St. Barbara's Day awards in accordance with tradition, although details of the amounts were not provided.

In Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa, the financial situation forced the management board to make a controversial decision. Miners will only receive 30 percent. the due St. Barbara's Day award. The management board explains this by “a very difficult financial situation and the need to ensure the company's liquidity.”
Trade unionists firmly rejected this proposal, calling it “unacceptable”. Just a few weeks ago, a complete suspension of payments was considered, which caused a wave of dissatisfaction among employees. Due to the decision to limit the reward, trade unionists announce a protest to be held on December 12. Tension in the company is growing, and miners are threatening to take to the streets if their demands are not met.

Difficult times for the coal sector
Decisions regarding St. Barbara's Day awards reflect the varied financial condition of coal companies in Poland. JSW is struggling with losses worth billions, which forces it to reduce expenses.
Last week JSW announced that its net loss after three quarters of 2025 cumulatively amounted to PLN 2.9 billion. Sales revenues amounted to PLN 7 billion.
Therefore, the management board made this difficult decision – the company announced that the payment will be made on December 3, 2025 to all eligible employees in the amount of 30 percent due benefits, for each employee calculated individually.

JSW announced that the gross amount of the award and the equivalent to be paid on December 3, 2025 will be approximately PLN 100.79 million. Together with the employer's estimated overheads, the cost of the above award and its equivalent will amount to approximately PLN 127.31 million.
