In the message of December 1, Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan explains what he means by “a real form of patriotism”, linking it to individual responsibility and the proper functioning of institutions. He states that “Romanian debt and citizen debt go hand in hand” and that assuming them can put Romania on a better path.
Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan sent a public message on Romania's National Day, in which he encourages Romanians to look to the future with confidence: “Romanians can and Romania can overcome difficulties, climb higher, build a better future”.
He also spoke about the historical significance of the moment of December 1, 1918: “The Great Union of 1918 is, I think, the most beautiful moment of our national history. It is the foundation of today's Romania, it is the memory of the great sacrifices of the First World War and it is a permanent lesson of Romanian solidarity”.
Bolojan emphasized that the National Day is a call to trust and to assume civic responsibility: “December 1 calls us to trust Romania and ourselves (…) The Union of 1918 gave us the right to be a whole nation, but also the duty to work for national welfare. The duty of being a Romanian and the duty of a citizen go hand in hand, and when we do this double duty, Romania moves forward.”

In his message, the prime minister also explained what, in his view, is “a real form of patriotism”: “Every public service that works more efficiently, every job well done, every quality product and every successful investment, public or private.”
He ended his message by thanking the Romanians in the country and in the diaspora: “Thank you to all those who, through work and decency, make a better Romania. Happy birthday, Romania! Happy birthday, Romanians, from the country and from the diaspora!”.
