More than 16 thousand transactions with letters of credit have been made by Siberians in Sberbank since the beginning of 2025

Residents of Siberian regions, with the help of Sber, have completed over 16 thousand transactions with letters of credit since the beginning of 2025. Their total volume amounted to almost 66 billion rubles, which is 11% more year on year.

This financial instrument has become the most popular among residents of the Novosibirsk region, who made about half of all transactions with letters of credit in Siberia.

Sber's letter of credit helps protect the interests of all parties to the transaction during non-cash payments. The buyer transfers the transaction amount to a special bank account and, if the conditions are met, is guaranteed to receive the property for which he paid, and if not, the bank will return the money to him. The seller is guaranteed to receive money if he has fulfilled all the terms of the contract.

The use of a letter of credit is especially convenient when conducting interregional transactions, when the seller and buyer make a transaction while being in different cities. Thus, with the help of a letter of credit, a cat breeder runs her business in Sberbank: she sends kittens of the British Shorthair breed to different cities of the country, while the letter of credit acts as a guarantee that the kitten will definitely find its owner, and the seller will receive money.

Letters of credit are often used in real estate transactions. Thus, as part of a practical conference recently organized by the Krasnoyarsk Union of Realtors, Sber spoke about the possibilities of a letter of credit with transfer, when the recipient of part of the letter of credit is a third party, for example, a realtor who receives a commission for the service. And also about the use of a letter of credit with transfer in the alternative sale of apartments, when synchronization of several transactions is required.
