Date in the Jewish Autonomous Region: a decree was issued on the withdrawal of I. Amyot’s book “Sunrise” from the libraries of the Jewish Autonomous Region

November 30, 1946

Zisi Davidovich Weizman, famous Jewish poet and journalist, was born. He wrote in Yiddish. Member of the Union of Writers of the USSR and the Union of Writers of Russia. He lived in the Far East for many years. Came to Birobidzhan. Published in the newspaper “Birobidzhaner Stern” (12+), in the magazine “Soviet Gameland” (12+).

In poetic works he wrote about Birobidzhan and the Birobidzhan people. His poems were translated into Russian by Leonid Shkolnik.

Since 2006 he lived in Israel. Died on November 12, 2020 in Beersheba.

The newspaper “Birobidzhan Star” (12+) on November 30, 1949, in the heading “Across our region” wrote about the work of libraries in the region.

In the note “In the village library” it is told that employees of rural and town libraries of the Smidovichi district are actively participating in mass propaganda work (12+). Many of them organize lectures among the population, reports, conversations on political and popular science topics:

“…The library in the village of Nikolaevka has done a particularly good job. Recently, the library hosted a discussion of the book by Stalin Prize laureate B. Polevoy “The Tale of a Real Man” (12+).

The same newspaper says about the events that took place within the walls of the regional library named after. Sholom Aleichem: these are book exhibitions (0+) dedicated to Sergei Mironovich Kirov, and also a reading conference (12+) was held in the library based on the novel by Stalin Prize laureate D. Semushkin “The Elite Goes to the Mountains” (12+). The conference was preceded by a lot of preparatory work. The library has decorated literary posters, posted recommended literature lists about the work of D. Semushkin, and also published a special issue of a wall newspaper (12+) with reader reviews of the novel “Alitet Goes to the Mountains” (12+). A book and illustrated exhibition (0+) about the work of writers of the Far East has been organized, one of the sections of which is dedicated to the literary activity of D. Semushkin.

“With great interest, the conference participants listened to the speech of a student from the department of northern peoples of the Birobidzhan regional school of cultural education, Comrade Dyachkov. Using examples from the lives of his Chukchi parents, he spoke about the difficult past of the northern peoples, as truthfully depicted in the novel “The Elite Goes to the Mountains,” and that only the Soviet government made the peoples of the North free, and their life cultural and prosperous. At the end of the conference, an amateur concert took place.”

This issue of the newspaper also tells about the work of the drama club at the railway club in the city of Obluchye. About the fact that, along with one-act plays, the circle also prepares large performances:

“A month ago, the drama club, under the leadership of the oldest participant in amateur performances, Maria Stepanovna Grishnevich, began work on A. N. Ostrovsky’s play “Talents and Fans” (12+). The premiere of this performance will take place on the club stage in the near future.”

The note “Sections of weightlifters and gymnasts” informs readers about the club at the Birobidzhan convoy-building plant. A lot of young people gather in the club in the evenings, various cultural events are held in the club, and physical education activities at the club are widely gaining popularity:

“In the sports club, weightlifting (6+) and gymnasts (6+) sections have started training. The chess and checkers section is preparing for the championship at the plant. Choral and drama clubs have also been organized, and a brass band has been created. In the village of the wagon factory, the club has been allocated a room in which residents of the village relax in the evenings with a book and a board game.”

In the documentary-historical book by D. Weisserman “Birobidzhan: Dreams and Tragedy” (12+) the following fact is mentioned:

“On November 30, 1949, the next resolution of the bureau of the regional committee of the All-Union Communist Party of Bolsheviks was issued, “On Amyot’s book “Sunrise” (12+). It gave instructions to “remove from the libraries of the Jewish Autonomous Region and the bookselling network the book of the Birobidzhan writer I. Emiot “Sunrise” (12+), published by the Birobidzhan publishing house in 1948 in a circulation of 2 thousand copies on 62 pages.” The head of the oblit, Gorokhovsky, was also given instructions to bring this resolution to the attention of the USSR Council of Ministers for the protection of military and state secrets in the press. It took Gorokhovsky just over a month to report to Simonov as follows: “I am informing you that, in fulfillment of the order, 1,930 copies of books out of a circulation of 2,000 copies of I. Amyot’s poetry books “Sunrise” (6+) were withdrawn from the printing house’s warehouse.”

In the newspaper “Birobidzhan Star” (12+) on November 30, 1980, lecturer at the Birobidzhan University of Book Lovers Tatyana Tikhomirova, in the article “Literary Association – 50 Years” wrote about the origins and origins of the literary association in the region. About the creativity and educational work of writers and poets in our region:

“At its origins stood such famous Soviet writers as E. Kazakevich, D. Bergelson, B. Olevsky. In the 30s, the creative destiny of the then young studio students, and now famous writers and poets B. Miller, G. Rabinkov, L. Wasserman began. The young poets G. Koifman, A. Gofshtein, who died in the Great Patriotic War, worked fruitfully in those years. V. Shulman… Many young people have come to the literary association over the past ten years. From their first modest literary experiences to the high rank of members of the USSR Writers' Union – such a path has been taken over the years by A. Kobenkov, O. Ermolaeva, and the current chairman of the literary association R. Shoikhet. L. Shkolnik and V. Solomatov from Birobidzhan are active participants in the regional competition “Youth of the Amur Region.” (12+), held annually by the regional committee of the Komsomol, the Khabarovsk writers' organization, the book publishing house and the editorial office of the newspaper “Young Far East” (12+) Writers and poets of our region often meet with young people, soldiers, workers of factories and factories, and agricultural workers.”
