“To all Airlines, Pilots, Drug Traffickers and People Traffickers, please consider the AIR SPACE OVER AND AROUND VENEZUELA TOTALLY CLOSED”, Trump wrote on his network, using capital letters, which is characteristic of him.
The warning comes after last week the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) informed US airlines of a “potentially dangerous situation” during the overflight of Venezuela, citing an accelerated degradation of security conditions and an intensification of military activities in the area, Reuters reports.
In response to this tense context, Venezuela revoked the operating licenses of six major international airlines, which had already suspended flights to Caracas after the FAA warning.
Donald Trump also hinted on Thursday that the United States was preparing to take new action against alleged drug-trafficking rings in Venezuela, telling the military in a Thanksgiving call that ground operations would begin soon.
