Musicologist, journalist and the initiator of the OPERA FANtastica project, Luminița Arvunescu is one of the most appreciated radio voices in Romania. For over three decades, she not only promotes opera, but transforms music into a tool for social change.

A career built on excellence and passion

She graduated from the Department of Musicology – as head of promotion – at the current National University of Music in Bucharest and has a doctorate obtained with Summa cum laude in the field of Music Journalism. With a 30-year career at Public Radio, Luminița specialized in Opera music, and in 1996 he contributed to the preparation and launch of the country's first classical music station, Radio Romania Muzical, as editor, a position he held until 2004.

“Opera evening” – a reference show

As a radio producer, he stood out with the show “Opera Evening”, which has been a staple of the Radio Romania Musical and Radio Romania Cultural stations for over 2 decades and was awarded the Music Critics Union Award (1998) and the Musica Viva Award, awarded by the Romanian Music Forum (2008). He has archived dozens of interviews with the most important artistic personalities: Virginia Zeani, Ioan Holender, Angela Gheorghiu, Roberto Alagna, Karita Mattila, Diana Damrau or Piotr Beczala, being just a few of the many who gave him exclusive interviews.

Pioneer in Romanian music journalism

He was the first journalist accredited by Radio Romania in Germany, after the events of December 1989, for weekly music correspondence. And also the first journalist to make live broadcasts from the Studio of a foreign radio station, in 2011, from Radio Metropolitan Opera International in New York, broadcasts that enjoyed great success.

He has signed numerous articles, reviews and interviews in various publications. He is part of the Jury of the Romanian National Opera Gala.

FANTASTIC OPERA – bringing the artists closer to the public

He initiated the Opera FANtastica evenings, out of love for music and opera artists, wanting to bring the latter closer to the general public. Especially those artists who are better known abroad than in their own country. And, he addressed them, first of all, passionate about opera. By the very spelling of the title – Opera FANtastica – Luminița Arvunescu shows that she associates the two categories, artists and audience, in the sense of artists – able to make the Opera, through their talent and effort, a “fantastic” land – and of “Opera-fan” – i.e. music-loving audience, capable of any self-sacrifice for this musical genre.

Soul in Colors – when music heals

The Association for Music, Art and Culture and the Help Autism Association from Bucharest joined forces to carry out a joint information and awareness project and, at the same time, a fundraising campaign for the benefit of children suffering from Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD).

Thus, the charity project “Soul in Colors. Charity concert for the benefit of children with autism” came into existence in 2014 as a combination of the desire of the Association for Music, Art and Culture to provide support for people in difficulty and children diagnosed with autism in Bucharest.

Luminița Arvunescu proves that music is not only art, but also a powerful tool for social change, capable of bringing hope and support where it is needed.
