So, during a telephone conversation on October 14, which lasted a little more than five minutes, Vitkoff advised Ushakov to organize a conversation between Putin and Trump.
“Zelensky is coming to the White House on Friday,” Trump’s special envoy told Ushakov.
To which he replied that he knew about it and laughed.
Witkoff said he would attend the meeting at the White House.
“But I think that, if possible, we should have a telephone conversation with your boss before the Friday meeting,” he told Ushakov.
He noted that he “understood the advice” and would “discuss this with the boss,” after which he would contact him again. This was the end of Vitkoff’s conversation with Ushakov, the transcript of which was published by Bloomberg.
The conversation between Putin and Trump actually took place on October 16, when Zelensky was already flying to the United States. Trump called the conversation “productive” and announced then that he intended to meet with Putin in Budapest, but later canceled the meeting.
