Mohamed Salah has come under fire from fans after an unwanted statistic of the Liverpool star in the Premier League came to light, sparking jokes about the £400,000-a-week footballer.
In Liverpool's last Premier League game, 0–3 against Nottingham Forest, Salah attempted 14 dribbles but only managed 4, making a total of 10 failed dribbles, the most failed attempts by a player in a single Premier League game this season.
The 33-year-old was on the pitch for the full 90 minutes but struggled to make the impact fans have come to expect from the 'Egyptian King'.
He completed just 70% of his passes, created three chances and had just one shot on target.
His accuracy with crosses and long passes was also poor, failing to complete any of his seven crosses and any long passes, sparking concern and heated discussion online.
Mohamed Salah, taken aback on the internet
Social media was flooded with backlash, with fans commenting sourly about Salah's apparent decline in form.
“Saudi Arabia is calling him”was a comment, alluding to rumors of a possible move to the Saudi Pro League.
Another joked: “The brother got the £400,000 contract and hung up his boots. Disgusting work ethic, but I respect the movement”, highlighting frustration at what many see as a drop in effort at Liverpool.
Criticism was also aimed at his dribbling style, with one fan commenting: “Dribbling is no longer for Salah. He kept running the ball straight at the defender.”
Liverpool's forward line has also been criticized for tactical issues, with some fans highlighting Cody Gakpo's poor performance alongside Salah's struggles, saying: “On the other side of the pitch, Gakpo is playing even worse. The two shouldn't start games at the same time.”
Although Salah remains one of the greatest players in Liverpool's history, this game showed the challenges the winger faces in maintaining his top performances.
For a player who terrorized defenses with his speed, agility and finishing last season, recent stats point to a decline that worries fans as Liverpool struggle to find form.
This season, Salah has played 17 games, scoring 5 times and providing 3 assists.
