The Minister of Labour, Family, Youth and Social Solidarity, Petre-Florin Manole, declared, on Saturday, in Zalău, that the state pays significantly higher commissions for the distribution of pensions in cash, compared to those for payment by card, and announced the launch of a program aimed at encouraging the voluntary switch to electronic payment, reports Agerpres.
“The commissions we pay at the Post Office today are 10 times higher than the commissions we pay through the bank when we pay the pensions,” said Manole, explaining the major difference between the costs borne at the budgetary level.
According to the minister, the distribution of pensions is currently divided equally between the two methods, with more than half of the pensioners receiving the money by card and half receiving the money in cash, from the postman.
“For the card half, I paid 6 million lei in bank fees until the end of September, for the cash half, I paid 60 million lei in post office fees,” said the Minister of Labor.
In this context, the Ministry of Labor will start a program to promote the payment of pensions by card, without introducing obligations.
“We will start a program to promote, without forcing anyone, one more time. It would be useful for as many pensioners as possible to accept the payment of their pension by card. In the European Union, in 2025, I hope it doesn't seem exotic to anyone. It's normal”, he emphasized.
Florin Manole linked the measures regarding the modernization of the pension payment system to the policies that support the increase in the number of jobs.
“How many times do you hear me talking about ANOFM and subsidies for new employees? Understand, as is correct, that we are talking about new contributions to the pension system. It means, therefore, that that kind of program is a support for employees and a support for employers, but also a support for retirees”, the Minister of Labor also pointed out.
