“That is why we are and will continue to develop a list of potential ideas for ending this war based on the contributions of both sides of this conflict,” he stressed.
The US and Russia have come up with a plan that Ukraine will accept
On Wednesday, the media, including Axios and the Financial Times reported on the peace plan negotiated with Russia, which the US wants to force Ukraine to accept. This plan is to include, among others: handing over the rest of the unoccupied Donbas to Russia, partial disarmament and a radical reduction in the size of the Ukrainian army, and, according to Axios, also recognition of the Russian annexation of Crimea and Donbas by Washington.
As The Hill wrote, members of Congress favorable to Ukraine were surprised by reports about the plan, which is to consist of 28 points.
— I don't know what this 28-point plan is. “I'm glad we're developing a plan,” influential Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham said Wednesday morning. He added that the plan must be based on the United States' strong military commitments to Ukraine and measures targeting Vladimir Putin's ability to finance the war.
Graham hopes the peace plan will give momentum to his efforts to enact sanctions against countries that do business with Russia.
“No plan will work unless Putin and his allies believe we are serious about more military support, more Ukraine's ability to strike Russia militarily, and more economic destruction for those who support the Russian war machine,” the senator added. “When they believe in it, this 28-point plan will work,” the Republican said.
