From his feet, after the conference, Mircea Lucescu revealed two players called up for sure for the play-off: “We missed a lot!”

At the end of the press conference that followed of the match between Romania and San Marino (7-1)the selectors have confirmed two names that will normally be on the call-up list for the March tie.

Ranked 3rd in the group from the preliminaries, Romania maintains a chance of qualifying for the final tournament in 2026 thanks to the successful course in the most recent edition of the League of Nations, in which it won its group.

Thus, in March 2026, the “tricolors” will participate, along with 15 other teams, in the qualifying round, one in two rounds. In the first of them we will play away against one of Italy, Denmark, Turkey and Ukraine, depending on what the draw holds for us on Thursday.

There are more than 4 months until then, but Mircea Lucescu, the one who hinted that he will prepare the national team in March as well, named two players who would normally be part of the squad. It's about the stopper Radu Dragusin and the midfielder Nicholas Stanciu.

Lucescu's statements came at the end of the press conference on Tuesday evening, after he had risen from the lectern. From his feet, when he was asked if we will see Drăgușin at the national team in March, Lucescu confirmed:

“Yes, yes, yes, yes, for sure. We missed a lot of everything“.

And Stanciu, yes. But how to summon him [acum] if he doesn't play for a month and a half? How do I summon him? You tell me! What do I do, summon him and what to do? You don't think about all that, do you? He hasn't been playing for I don't know how long, he's injured… What can I do, I can't,” added the selector.

Drăgușin did not participate in this campaign at all, being sidelined since the end of January, when he suffered a serious injury. Stanciu played in 5 of the 8 matches, but towards the end of the campaign he was no longer called up due to medical problems.
