Mihai Stoica (60 years old), the president of the FCSB Board of Directors, posted a message on his personal Facebook account, shortly after the Romanian national team finished the preliminary group of the 2026 World Championship with a 7-1 victory over San Marino.

The FCSB official revealed that he preferred to watch the spectacular match between Scotland and Denmark, which ended with a score of 4-2, to the detriment of the national team of Romania, represented in the match with San Marino by 4 players of the title champion of the Super League, Ștefan Târnovanu, Daniel Bîrligea, Florin Tănase and Darius Olaru, of which the first 3 were starters.

Mihai Stoica preferred to watch Scotland – Denmark to the detriment of the Romanian national team match: “I congratulate”

It's the first time in my life that I prefer to watch another game while ours is playing. And I congratulate myself. Scotland vs Denmark, what a game!Mihai Stoica wrote on Facebook.

Scotland needed a win against Denmark to qualify directly for the 2026 World Cup, with their last appearance at the final tournament dating back to 1998, as did Romania.

Scott McTominay opened the scoring for the hosts in the 3rd minute and the Danes only got back into the game in the 57th minute after Rasmus Hojlund's penalty kick was converted. Rasmus Kristensen left the visitors “in 10” after seeing his second “yellow” in the 61st minute and Scotland took the lead again in the 78th minute through Lawrence Shankland.

The joy at Hampden Park in Glasgow lasted just 3 minutes after Patrick Dorgu restored parity. The Scots did not give up and resumed their attacks at the opposing goal, and Kieran Tierney made it 3-2 in the 90+3 minute with an unstoppable shot from outside the box.

The table was closed with a superb execution by Kenny McLean, in the 90+8th minute. The Danes stormed into the opposition half and the hosts managed to win the ball back, at which point McLean surprised Kasper Schmeichel with a superb finish from halfway.

Scotland thus surpassed Denmark from the top of group C and qualified directly for the 2026 World Championship, and the Danes go to the play-off in March, where they can face Romania.
