The Romanian women's national handball team met yesterday, November 17, in Bistrița for the “Carpathian Trophy”, a competition that starts on Thursday.

The tournament is the last check of the national team prepared by Ovidiu Mihăilă before the World Championship that starts on November 26 in Holland and Germany.

  • The 27th edition of the Women's Handball World Championship is scheduled between November 26 and December 14, 2025. Romania is part of group A, along with Denmark, Japan and Croatia. The matches will be played in Rotterdam

Ovidiu Mihăilă: “An intense week awaits us”

coach Ovidiu Mihaila summoned 18 players for the Bistrita tournament and in view of the World Championship.

Yulia Dumanska, Eva Kerekeș, Sorina Grozav, Maryia Kanaval Skrobic, Alisis Boiciuc, Rebeca Necula, Andreea Popa, Cristina Laslo, Alicia Gogîrlă, Sonia Seraficeanu or Lorena Ostase are not missing from the team.

At the “Carpathian Trophy”, Romania will play on Thursday with PortugalSaturday with Czechia and Sunday against Austria.

“We have summoned 18 players and we hope that the sportswomen will be healthy and with the desire to be present at the World Championship, by what they have to show both in training and in the games of the 2025 Carpathian Trophy tournament. An intense week awaits us, which we must capitalize on very carefully, following a very carefully established schedule.

I trust all my teammates and every player. I thank them for the way they responded to the first action and we must continue with the same attitude and spirit”, said the selector Ovidiu Mihăilă, for GSP.ro.

FRH sources confirmed for GSP that if no player gets injured at the “Carpathian Trophy”, all 18 players will also go to the World Championship, where Romania will leave on November 25.

The final tournament will take place between November 26 and December 14, and Romania will play in group A in Rotterdam, with Croatia, Japan and Denmark.

The first reserves that can catch the batch of 18 are: Diana Lixândroiu (Brăila Danube), Bianca Bazaliu (Gloria Bistrita) and Stefania Stoica (Gloria Bistrita).

  • A possible first “7” for Romania: Dumanska, Kerekeș, Kanaval Skrobic, Boiciuc, Gogîrlă, Seraficeanu, Ostase.
