On the night of November 17-18, Russia carried out two powerful, coordinated attacks attacks on the Dnieper and Kharkiv Oblastusing both drones and ballistic missiles. These strikes caused fires, destruction and tragic civilian casualties.
It was a night during which the anti-aircraft alarms were almost silent. When the smoke cleared in the morning, it turned out that the scale of destruction was much greater than initially expected.
“As a result massive attack in the Dnieper two people were injured. A 59-year-old woman and a 67-year-old man are in hospital, their condition is described as moderate,” wrote the head of the regional military administration in Dnepropetrovsk, Vladislav Haivanenko, on Telegram.
As a result of Russian shelling in various parts of the city several fires broke out.
“A two-story media building, transport facilities and private enterprises, an administration building, a service station, shops and kiosks, a catering point, infrastructure elements, six apartment blocks, garages, over 20 cars and three other vehicles were destroyed or damaged,” the administration said.
The Ukrainian news website Suspilne wrote that the building housing their editorial office and Ukrainian Radio was destroyed.
The state-owned railway company Ukrzaliznytsia earlier said that windows in railway carriages and station buildings were smashed during the attack on the Dnieper. Two trains were delayed for two and a half hours and affected the Zaporozhye-Przemyśl and Dnieper-Khełm routes.
“Passengers and crews of these trains, as well as passengers of the suburban train 6044 Pjatychatky-Dnepr, stayed in a shelter at the station throughout the attack and did not suffer any injuries,” the company said.
The railways added that part of the circuit was left without electricity, forcing workers to use diesel locomotives as backup.
Rocket attack on Berestowe
In addition on Tuesday, November 18, in the morning Russian troops also carried out a rocket attack on the village of Berestove in the Kharkiv Oblast, causing further civilian casualties.

He added that the authorities now know about nine other victimsincluding a 16-year-old boy. Seven people were taken to hospital with injuries caused by the explosion, and two others suffered acute stress reactions.
It is still unclear how many rockets hit Berestov. However, Synehubov's statement shows that several attacks were carried out.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, November 17 at 20:00 Russia launched the attack using four Iskander-M ballistic missiles and 114 unmanned attack aircraft of the Shahid, Geran and other types. About 70 of them were Shahids.
The attack was stopped by the Ukrainian Air Force, air defense units, electronic warfare teams, drone troops and mobile fire groups.
“By 8:30 a.m., air defense had shot down or neutralized 101 enemy unmanned aerial vehicles of the Shahid and Geran type in the north, south and east of the country,” the air force reported.
Still, four missiles and 13 strike drones hit 15 placesand debris from downed drones fell in two additional locations.
