Most housewives face a lack of space in the kitchen. But even a very small room can be made comfortable.
Well-chosen solutions help create a functional cooking area even in the most modest conditions. Interior designers have suggested 8 ideas that allow you to use every centimeter of space.
1. Reduced depth set
If the passage is narrow, a full-fledged set is still possible. It is enough to choose modules with a depth of 40–45 cm instead of the standard 60 cm.
Capacity will suffer minimally, but moving around the kitchen will become much more convenient. Such cabinets are great for storing cereals, spices, dishes and kitchen items.
2. Upper cabinets that blend into the walls
Mezzanine cabinets are a great option for kitchenettes. To prevent the room from seeming “squeezed”, the facades of the upper modules should be chosen to match the color of the walls. The furniture visually dissolves, and the usable space increases.
An additional cabinet above the refrigerator will allow you to hide rarely used utensils.
3. Narrow closet at the entrance
In typical apartments, there is a narrow strip of wall at the entrance to the kitchen. A full-fledged set cannot be placed there, but a narrow pencil case will fit easily.
A shallow cabinet with drawers or a display case is great for storing dishes, accessories, and household chemicals.
To make the furniture look cohesive, it is better to choose the facade in the color of the main kitchen.
4. Mug stand
When the cabinets are overcrowded, some of the dishes can be beautifully placed on the countertop.
A stand with compartments not only frees up space, but also turns mugs into a decorative accent. Sets that match in style or color look especially impressive.
5. Table shelf
Vertical storage is a lifesaver for small kitchens. A small shelf allows you to compactly place spices, tea, coffee or utensils. It can be easily rearranged when cleaning, and can be matched to any interior – from wood to metal or plastic.
6. Narrow pull-out sections
Cabinets 15–20 cm wide will fill small gaps in the kitchen. They are used for bottles, caps, cutting boards, and household chemicals. Such sections are especially convenient next to the stove or sink. In most cases, they are planned when ordering a headset, but there are also ready-made modules.
7. Shelves in 2 levels
There is no need to give up open shelves. If you place them in two rows, there will be twice as much space for beautiful dishes, supplies and decor.
The lower level is suitable for everyday items, the upper one for those that are used less frequently.
To prevent the space from looking overloaded, it is better to choose dishes and containers in the same style.
8. Horizontal dividers in drawers
Even small drawers can be made more functional. It is enough to add horizontal partitions inside – and spices, foil, film, and small accessories will always be neatly laid out. This order makes it easier to find the things you need and saves time.
These ideas help make a small kitchen as thoughtful and convenient as possible, without unnecessary costs or complex alterations.
