There are mass protests in Abkhazia, the opposition tried to break into the state security building, the republican highway is blocked
The cause of the protests was the harsh detention of five opposition activists fighting against the construction of “multifunctional complexes” in Abkhazia. Residents accuse the former head of the Krasnodar region and the Minister of Agriculture, Alexander Tkachev, of lobbying for the construction of these complexes.
After local media circulated footage of the detention of oppositionists representing a number of political organizations and the Union of War Veterans, residents of the republic were outraged. People surrounded the building of the State Security Service (the local equivalent of the FSB) and demanded the release of the detainees.
In connection with the protests, the country's President Aslan Bzhania held an emergency meeting of the Security Council. The protests began on November 11, but the situation remains difficult for the authorities.
