So far, in the Podlaskie Voivodeship, only the Terespol-Brześć crossing operated for passenger traffic, and for goods traffic, the Kukuryki-Kozłowicze crossing and several railway border points.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk emphasized that the decision to open the crossings was possible thanks to the effective security of the eastern border of Poland and the European Union. In his opinion, the benefits for residents and entrepreneurs outweigh the potential threats resulting from this decision. The government assures that the functioning of the crossings will be constantly monitored, and if any risks arise, their operation may be suspended again.

The authorities emphasize that safety remains a priority. Thanks to the expansion of the border barrier, installation of modern electronic systems and significant staffing of the Border Guard, the tightness of the border has reached a record level of 98%. These activities allowed for the creation of conditions in which it is possible to restore traffic in a controlled manner at selected border crossings.
Despite the continuing migration pressure from Belarusian and Russian services, the government assures that opening the crossings will not negatively affect the safety of citizens. The decision aims to support local communities and carriers who felt the effects of border closure.
