There will be discussions regarding retirement conditions in the case of other professional categories that benefit from service pensions, but those who remain in the system will benefit from the conditions of the old legislation when they choose to retire, Nicușor Dan said on Wednesday.
In the context in which he presented, on Wednesday, the new “Country Defense Strategy”, Nicușor Dan also spoke about the fears of the defense system and public order related to the modification of the pension system:
“There is a concern among military personnel and people in the Home Office and Services that what has happened with magistrates' pensions will happen in other areas. What I want to convey is that, just as for magistrates it is expressly stated that those who meet the conditions for retirement, at the time of the new law, will benefit from these conditions further – that is, when they retire and choose to remain in the system – there is political agreement at all levels for the same to happen in defense systems, internal services. It's not a reason for people to retire.”
Nicușor Dan also said that many employees in the justice system chose to retire early, fearing that the new laws would change their conditions and reduce their pensions.
“Unfortunately, due to the uncertainty of what was going to be in the justice system, many people retired for fear that they will not have the same retirement conditions later. I want to make this announcement very clear so that people have a predictability of what will happen to their professional future,” added the head of state.
