“I focus my energy solely on one goal, which is to prove my innocence. The truth will triumph,” Sarkozy wrote, adding that “the end of this story has not yet been written.”
The court agreed on Monday to release him under judicial supervision, finding that there was no risk of concealing evidence or putting pressure on witnesses. At the same time, he banned Sarkozy from leaving France and from contacting his co-defendants and the office of the Minister of Justice.
The higher court will hear in 2026 Sarkozy's appeal against the five-year prison sentence handed down in September this year. The former president was then found guilty of criminal conspiracy over allegations that his 2007 election campaign was financed by Libya. Sarkozy was president of France from 2007-12.
