The Japanese government also said North Korea had launched what it believed to be a ballistic missile, and it most likely fell outside Japan's exclusive economic zone, Reuters reports.
Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said there were no confirmed reports of damage.
A day ago, North Korea criticized the administration of US President Donald Trump for imposing sanctions that “antagonize” and promised to respond accordingly, Reuters notes.
North Korea conducted its first ballistic missile test in months on October 22, just days before US President Donald Trump and other world leaders are due to meet in South Korea.
Kim Jong Un has sharply accelerated the pace of weapons tests after nuclear talks with Trump failed in 2019 over disputes over US economic sanctions.
Earlier last month, Kim unveiled a new intercontinental ballistic missile at a military parade attended by high-ranking officials from China, Russia and other countries. The parade highlighted Kim's growing diplomatic influence and his determination to build a nuclear arsenal capable of striking the United States and its allies.
