According to information provided by The Daily Beast, Krzysztof Panasiuk was detained by the Department of Homeland Security last Friday in the Chicago area. This was related to deportation actions initiated by the Donald Trump administration.

The 48-year-old, called a “drug lord” by Americans, had been hiding in the US for almost 25 years. He arrived in this country in 2001, but he has not had a valid visa for 14 years. He was wanted with an Interpol red notice for drug trafficking and operating in an organized criminal group.

Panasiuk was arrested and is currently awaiting deportation to Poland. On the Polish police website you can read that the 48-year-old is wanted for “introducing a significant amount of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, poppy milk or poppy straw into circulation or participating in such trade.”

Panasiuk's arrest came at a time when the US Immigration Service's operation, “Midway Blitz”, is causing great emotions across the US. All because of the number of detainees and the methods used against them. Nearly 550 people were arrested in the Chicago area during the first phase of the operation in September, according to AP.
