Weight loss for lazy people: replaced yoga with sleep, and jogging with reading – minus 5 kg per month without fitness or diets

Good news for those who don't like treadmills, mats and planks. It turns out that calories are burned not only during training. Even by doing your usual activities, you can activate your metabolism and lose weight without effort.

City life makes us less mobile, which affects our health and figure. But if you spend energy correctly during the day, you can noticeably lose weight even without sports.

For example, yoga takes only 180–250 kcal per hour. Strength training – 250-400 kcal, running – 500-600 kcal/h, swimming – 350-500 kcal/h, HIIT interval training – 500-800 kcal/h.

These 12 everyday activities burn calories just as well as working out.

1. Sleep – up to 60 kcal/h

Even in sleep, the body does not rest completely. It restores cells, regulates hunger and satiety hormones (leptin and ghrelin), and balances sugar levels. The process is especially active during the dreaming phase. The main thing is not to spoil the effect with late snacks.

2. Sex and kissing – 150–400 kcal/hour

Passion speeds up your pulse, breathing and metabolism. On average, in one “session” a man spends about 100 kcal, a woman – 70. It’s almost like a brisk walk! So you can consider romance a nice cardio workout.

3. Laughter – 10–40 kcal in 10–15 minutes

Sincere laughter involves the diaphragm, abdominal muscles and respiratory system. It stimulates the production of norepinephrine, which, in turn, enhances thermogenesis. Laugh more often: It's a free way to boost your metabolism and improve your mood.

4. Dancing – 240–400 kcal/hour

It doesn’t matter whether it’s Zumba, Hustle, or just moving to your favorite song—dancing gets your blood pumping, lifts your spirits, and is a great substitute for a workout. Just 30 minutes of active movement – and you burned your dinner.

5. Cleaning – 65–200 kcal/h

Washing floors, cleaning the bathroom, rearranging things is a great workout for muscles and endurance. In addition, cleaning reduces anxiety, and stress is the main enemy of harmony. So don’t give everything to the robot vacuum cleaner, a little movement is only good.

6. Walking with the dog – up to 240 kcal/hour

Fresh air and moderate activity create a healthy metabolism. An active pet will add a light cardio regime to you without exercise equipment. If you don’t have a dog, perhaps it’s time to get a motivator with a tail.

7. Hair styling – up to 140 kcal/h

Yes, standing in front of the mirror with a hairdryer, brush and straightener, you work with your arms, body and legs. Try styling long hair in 30 minutes – it's almost a fitness routine for your shoulders and hips.

8. Shopping – up to 200 kcal/h

Shopping is not only therapy, but also excellent physical activity: walking, trying on, packages, emotions. On average, it’s like an easy walk with a load. So offline shopping can be considered fitness for your mood.

9. Reading aloud – up to 90 kcal/hour

Even this can be beneficial: you tense the muscles of the face, chest and respiratory system. Especially if you read emotionally or rehearse a speech, then even more energy is wasted.

10. Games with children – 150–300 kcal/hour

Catch-up, ball, downhill or badminton are great cardio in a fun way. The main thing is to play together and not watch from the bench.

11. Charging – 150–300 kcal/h

Just 10 minutes of morning warm-up accelerates lymph, activates dopamine and prepares the body for the day. Even light exercise is more effective than one “painful” workout per week.

12. Stairs instead of an elevator – up to 1400 kcal/h

Climbing stairs is a super workout for your legs, buttocks and heart. Walk at least a couple of floors – and your body will thank you. The higher and more often the better.

By the way, simple computer work burns up to 140 kcal per hour. The brain actively consumes glucose when you think, analyze, and write. But so that the energy does not go only “to your head,” get up every 30–40 minutes, warm up and take a couple of steps. This will improve blood circulation and support metabolism.

Experts say that you can lose noticeable weight without sports. You just need to move more, laugh, love, clean and enjoy life. And the body itself will thank you with the extra calories spent and lightness.
