Sorin Grindeanu announced on Monday that he is not inviting President Nicusor Dan to the PSD Congress on Friday, where he will become the head of the party. Grindeanu said that it is his right to decide who he invites to the event, noting that former social-democratic president Liviu Dragnea was not invited.

Asked by journalists at the Parliament on Monday if he would invite President Nicusor Dan to the PSD Congress, Grindeanu answered:

“No. It is my right to invite him or not”, answered the interim president of the PSD, Sorin Grindeanu, quoted by News.ro.

Also, when asked which former PSD presidents he will invite to the Congress apart from Mircea Geoană and Adrian Năstase whom he already mentioned, Grindeanu stated that Victor Ponta confirmed his presence.

“I also spoke with Viorica Dăncilă, who is away at that time, so she cannot come. And I also spoke with Victor Ponta, who will come”, said Grindeanu.

“It is my right to invite the former presidents or not. I told you who I spoke with. Liviu Dragnea, from the statements I have seen, given by his lordship himself, still has certain restrictions to participate”, Grindeanu stated.

Grindeanu is the interim president of the PSD and the only candidate for the leadership of the party at the congress that will take place on Friday, November 7.

HotNews wrote already on Friday that former PSD president Viorica Dăncilă received the invitation from Sorin Grindeanu, but she will be out of the country.

“He invited me to the congress, but unfortunately I will be in a delegation, I am leaving for a delegation on 7 am (ed.: the day of the PSD congress), in China. I don't know if I would have participated, but I have been part of this party for 26 years. I can't say that the line the party is taking now is the right line, but I don't know, probably if I was in the country I would have participated,” said Viorica Dăncilă, for HotNews.

And Victor Ponta told HotNews that he discussed with Sorin Grindeanu about his participation in the PSD congress, but until that moment he had not received a formal invitation.
