The President of Romania declared, on Sunday, that the decision of the United States to withdraw part of the American troops from our country “is a gesture with a certain symbolism, but in no case is it a question of affecting security”.
Asked by reporters if we can expect to see the addition of NATO troops, other than the American ones, in our country, Nicușor Dan confirmed that “there are discussions in this direction”.
He was also asked about the opposition that exists to the partial withdrawal of American troops from Romania, in the US Congress, where the heads of the defense committees in the US Senate, Roger Wicker, and in the House of Representatives, Mike Rogers, both Republicans, signed a joint statement expressing their concern about the Pentagon's announcement.
“It is a debate with which we are not going to interfere, a debate within the American Congress. What I want to say is that, on the security side, Romania is a safe country. On the side of the relationship between us and the United States, things are linear and, further, of course it is a gesture with a certain symbolism, but in no case is it a question of affecting security”, Nicușor Dan also affirmed, on Sunday, in the press statements made after who participated in the launch event of Cătălin Drula's candidacy for the Capital City Hall.
What he said about the visit to the USA
Asked if when he goes to the White House he will ask President Donald Trump to supplement the American military forces in our country, Nicușor Dan indicated another “big stake” for his visit to the USA.
“The most important thing in the future relationship between Romania and the United States is a much, much increased economic presence of American companies in Romania. That is the big stake of the visit to the United States and, therefore, it must be prepared from an economic point of view very well”, concluded the President of Romania.
