Witnesses to the knife attack on the train traveling between Doncaster and Kings Cross in London on Saturday night have described their terrifying moments.

Olly Foster, one of the people on the train at the time of the attack, told the BBC that he initially heard people shouting “run, run, there's a guy stabbing everybody” and thought it might be a Halloween prank.

The witness said people started crowding into the carriage and he noticed his hand was “covered in blood”. “Blood was all over the chair” he was leaning on, he said.

An older man “blocked” the attacker from stabbing a younger girl, injuring him in the head and neck, Foster said. Passengers around him used jackets to try to stop the bleeding.

The whole thing took a total of 10-15 minutes, but the incident “seemed to last forever,” the witness added.

People hid in the bathrooms and stomped on each other

Another passenger who witnessed the attack on a high-speed train heading to London told Sky News he heard someone shout: “They have a knife. I've been stabbed.”

The witness, who identified himself as Gavin, said there were people “covered in blood” and that police were shouting “get on the ground, get on the ground!” as passengers scrambled to get off the train.

Sky News correspondent Gurpreet Narwan, who was at the scene, said people hid in toilets and stomped on each other trying to get away from the attackers.

The knife attack began 10 minutes after the train left Peterborough, passengers told the same source. The police then intervened and one of the attackers was immobilized with a stun gun.

As a result of the attack, 10 people were injured, nine of whom are in serious condition. Police have arrested two men in what Prime Minister Keir Starmer described as a “horrific incident”. Authorities announced that counter-terrorism police have been involved in the investigation, while work is underway to establish the full circumstances and motivation of the incident.
