Zielinski opened the scoring superbly and Giovane equalized for Verona, scoring the Brazilian's first Serie A goal. The winning goal came in the 90+4th minute when Frese sent the ball into his own goal.
Inter, lucky win with Verona! Frese's own goal made the difference
Cristi Chivu's Inter started the game in attack from Marc Antonio Bentegodi, putting pressure on the goal defended by Montipo. Calhanoglu was the visitors' most dangerous man in the opening minutes. The Turk was also the man with the decisive pass for Zielinski's goal. Calhanoglu executed a corner, and the Pole resumed from the first from about 16 meters and left the Verona goalkeeper without a reply.
Inter slowed down, and the pace of the game dropped, without the two teams registering great opportunities. That was until the 40th minute when Verona struck through Giovane. The Brazilian broke down the right flank, outpaced Bastoni and beat Sommer with a powerful diagonal shot into the far corner. Even more, Verona could score the 2-1 goal just before the break, but the two teams entered the locker room tied.
In the second half, chances were completely lacking. Chivu's midfield was not found at all in the Verona rain and registered the first chance of the half in the 71st minute, with a header over Montipo's goal. In the 66th minute, Inter could stay with 10 men, but Bisseck was forgiven by the “central” for a foul made in the position of the last defender.
Verona waited to strike on the counter attack while Inter tried to build positional attacks. The balls reached Montipo's box more and more often, but without generating emotions. The “Nerazzuri”, without lucidity and efficiency in attack, still achieved the victory, without shining. Barella threw a ball into the box in the 90+4th minute, the ball hit Frese, and the 3 points went to Milan.
