The National Arena can host a new Europa League final! » FRF submitted the application

The Romanian Football Federation has announced that it has applied for the organization of the Europa League final in 2028 or 2029. It would be played at the National Arena.

The National Arena has already hosted a Europa League final, the one from the 2011-2012 season, between Atletico Madrid and Athletic Bilbao (3-0), and the FRF wants to bring a new major event to Bucharest. Namely, for one of the Europa League finals in 2028 or 2029 to be played at the National Arena.

In the press release, there is also a statement in this regard by Răzvan Burleanu, the president of the Romanian Football Federation.

“Romania has demonstrated that it has the ability to successfully organize such major events, being a competitive partner for UEFA in the European football circuit, and now we want to use the legacy of the previous tournaments organized in our country to create an impressive new chapter in the history of Romanian football.

We propose to use the entire application process for hosting the Europa League final as a trigger, which will contribute to building a reference organizational model for football clubs in Romania, in the context of Central and Eastern Europe, around the perspective of Football – Community – Business –

Sustainability. With a large number of experienced and dedicated specialists, Romanian football is ready to offer the best conditions and reach the highest standards in the organization of the Europa League final”, said Răzvan Burleanu, according to frf.ro.

The Europa League is the second European club competition on the “Old Continent”, after the Champions League. Romania has hosted several important football events in recent years. The list includes the organization of the group draw and the four matches from EURO 2020, but also the organization of the Under 21 and Under 19 European Championships.

In the current season, the Europa League final will take place in Istanbul, and in 2027 in Frankfurt.
