On October 30, the Siberian Federal University became the platform for a landmark event in the business and professional life of Siberia and the Far East – the Siberian Tax Forum.

The event discussed the main directions of tax policy of the Russian Federation, changes in tax legislation and practice from the perspective of investors. The most pressing taxation issues for the regions, as well as judicial practice, were discussed.

The forum was attended by lawyers and employees supervising tax issues and investment projects, judges, employees of regulatory authorities, lawyers and scientists from the Siberian Federal University Law Institute. One of the main topics was conscientious tax administration; among the forum sessions, attention was paid to tax monitoring, as well as the reciprocity of responsibilities and expectations in the context of tax policy.

“The Siberian Tax Forum is important primarily for interuniversity interaction. In addition, this format allows you to combine science and practice – employees of federal and regional tax authorities come here, judges of arbitration courts participate. In my opinion, tax specialists from different regions should conduct a regular dialogue, exchange thoughts and experiences in order to strengthen mutual understanding, and then implement the results obtained for the benefit of the economic life of the country,” said the managing partner of the Russian law firm Pepelyaev Group, lawyer, associate professor of the department of financial law at the Faculty of Law of Moscow State University. M. V. Lomonosov Sergey Pepelyaev.

Mikhail Denisaev, head of the department for support of disputes in higher courts and external communications of the Legal Department of the Federal Tax Service of Russia, noted that the forum allows “to hear colleagues, representatives of business and science.”

“This is an opportunity to understand what trends are relevant in modern legal science regarding the theoretical foundations of tax law. For scientists, I think, our practical experience of disputes is interesting,” said Mikhail Denisaev.

The organizers indicated that holding the forum at the SFU site became possible, among other things, thanks to the authoritative scientific school of tax studies under the leadership of Alexander Demin, a professor at the Department of Business, Competition and Financial Law at the SFU Law Institute.

Director of the Institute of Law, Associate Professor of the Department of Criminal Law Roman Gordeev emphasized the role of the university in organizing the forum:

“This event has become our good tradition. Scientists from the Department of Business, Competition and Financial Law at Siberian Federal University, under the leadership of Professor Irina Shishko, have been conducting long-term research in the field of tax legislation. Their experience significantly enriches the practice reported by our regulatory colleagues and helps resolve complex controversial issues.”

More than 150 specialists representing the regions of Western and Eastern Siberia, as well as the Far East, took part in the forum.

The partner and co-organizer of the event was the magazine for tax law professionals “Nalogoved”. Expert support for the forum was provided by specialists from the Office of the Federal Tax Service of the Russian Federation for the Krasnoyarsk Territory and the law firm Pepelyaev Group.
