According to Radio Romania, the ship could not be removed from the sand bank. Refloating maneuvers, made with the help of a ship, were unsuccessful.
The more than 180 passengers and the crew are still stuck on the Danube, but without being in danger, as RRA correspondent Mihai Bădescu found out.
It has been almost 24 hours since the Swiss-flagged ship ran into a sandbank on the Danube due to unusually low flows during this period.
The Tuists cannot continue their journey to Vienna until the water level rises. Authorities say all passengers are safe, with accommodation and food provided. It is expected that, in the coming days, the increase in the flow of the river will allow navigation to resume.
The cause of the incident could be a pilot error, favored by the low water level.
