The accelerator was officially launched on Wednesday. President URE Renata Mroczek announced on Wednesday at a press conference that the initiative aims to bring together sectors regulated by the Energy Regulatory Office and provide a permanent platform for dialogue and knowledge exchange between participants in order to jointly develop the most effective solutions to serve development of the Polish energy sector.

They found themselves in the accelerator among others representatives of the ministries of energy, climate, assets, industry organizations, large energy consumers, transmission and distribution operators, the renewable energy sector, energy storage, non-governmental organizations and academia.

As President Mroczek noted, five sectors regulated by the Energy Regulatory Office: electricity, gas, heating, liquid fuels and hydrogen are no longer separate entities and are increasingly interdependent.

– I think that today we can look at these sectors as one energy sector – she said. Therefore, the accelerator with the participation of representatives of various elements of the sector is intended to develop the most effective solutions for the development of the energy industry, e.g. regulatory proposals, which the regulator will then promote externally.

– I am convinced that dialogue will give us the most optimal, but also the cheapest, solutions. These solutions are intended to be effective mainly so that we do not promote solutions that generate excessive costs in other areas. It is not an art to pass on costs to others, explained President Mroczek. – The regulator must balance the interests of various parties – she added.

The President of the Energy Regulatory Office informed that first topic which will be dealt with by the accelerator's special working team cooperation between electricity and heating.

As she recalled, heating system operators were obliged to examine their potential and this review showed, among other things, that not everyone sees their path to transformation through electrification. The assumption in the team's work will be technological neutrality; especially in the context of heating, it is not about promoting solutions that not everyone could benefit from, emphasized Mroczek.

The potentials of individual heating plants are different, and the heating sector must transform at its own pace, but using local opportunities – explained the president of the Energy Regulatory Office, expressing the belief that electrification will not be the most optimal transformation path everywhere.
