In the Russian city of Azov, in the cafeteria of a school there are separate tables for children from low-income families and for children of participants in the war in Ukraine. Obviously, the menu of dishes offered to these children differs significantly, reports the independent Russian newspaper Novaia Gazeta on Wednesday, quoted by Rador Radio Romania.

The school principal was elected with a warning from the authorities. Pictures from the school canteen in the city of Azov, Rostov region, were posted on social networks.

From the images you can see how signs are placed on the tables with the messages: “For those with low incomes” and “For SVO” – SVO being the abbreviation for “special military operation” – the term used by the Russian authorities for the war in Ukraine.

Ekaterina Mizulina, head of the Safe Internet League, is the one who drew attention to this bizarre case. She did not specify when or at which school the photos were taken. Mizulina considers this to be “obvious discrimination” against Russian children. “It is not at all difficult to imagine how uncomfortable children feel and how many abuses, cases of harassment this can generate,” she wrote.

The Governor of the Rostov region, Yuri Sliusar, confirmed that the images were taken in a school in the city of Azov. He added that the school's principal was elected with a warning. At the same time, it is taken into account whether to continue the contract with the catering company.

“Such labeling not only humiliates the dignity of children, but also causes abuse, bullying in the school environment, which is absolutely unacceptable,” wrote the governor of the Rostov region.

These images were at School no. 11 in the city of Azov, a graduate told the portal Govorit NeMoskva.

Journalists found that students from low-income families are served a breakfast consisting of wheat porridge, bread and tea. Instead, children of war veterans and those with large families are served breakfast and lunch with dishes that include pilaf, meatballs, chicken and soup.

The Govorit NeMoskva portal also noted that social media users in Russia's Stavropol region also complain that menus for low-income students and children of war veterans differ greatly.
