“12 out of 10”. Trump praised his meeting with Xi Jinping

According to Trump, the leaders of the countries have made many important decisions. In particular, the head of the White House agreed to halve the tariff (from 20% to 10%) on Chinese goods related to fentanyl (a synthetic opioid analgesic).

The agreement also calls for China to resume soybean purchases and temporarily suspend its rare earth licensing regime for at least a year. Trump suggested that the agreement would continue.

“I think on a scale of zero to 10, with 10 being the best, I would say the meeting was a 12. Yes, I think it was a 12. It’s very important that the relationship itself matters a lot, and I think everything went very well,” the American president said.

Xi Jinping, quoted by Xinhua, said that China's development and revival are in line with Trump's “Make America Great Again” vision.

During a meeting with Trump in Busan, he emphasized that Beijing and Washington can help each other achieve success and shared prosperity, and that China and the United States “must be partners and friends,” as history and modern times require this, according to Xi Jinping.

He also confirmed his readiness to work with Trump to strengthen bilateral relations and create a favorable atmosphere for the development of both countries.

Context

The leaders met during Trump's tour for the Indo-Pacific region. The last time they met was in 2019 in the Japanese city of Osaka during the G20 summit.
