A modern solution is modular rubber tiles or roll coverings. They are resistant to temperature changes, do not rot and can last up to 20 years. However, the price remains high, and perforated tiles can grow grass over time if a backing is not used.
A popular choice among summer residents is black agrofabric. It is spread along the path and covered with sawdust, sand or bark on top. The material allows water and air to pass through, does not emit harmful substances, and effectively controls weeds for several seasons.
For those who want to save money, improvised materials are suitable. Sawdust is placed on top of newspapers or cardboard. This creates a barrier for weeds. To avoid souring, sawdust can be pre-conditioned or sprinkled with ash. Straw or hay in a layer of at least 9 cm also reliably blocks grass growth. Wood cuts also work well, especially if you lay them on geotextiles or thick cardboard. The most budget option is old newspapers or cardboard under a layer of sand or wood chips. This method requires updating every 2-3 years, but is almost free.
You should avoid old carpets or fleecy coverings: soil, dust and debris quickly accumulate in the pile, making the paths look untidy. It is better to choose materials that allow water to pass through and are easy to clean.
As a result, well-groomed paths between the beds are a completely solvable task. Budget options like sawdust, straw or cardboard are suitable for seasonal use, while crushed stone, agro-fabric or rubber coverings will ensure order for years.
