“Today there is a large-scale exercise of controlled discharge of water from the Vidraru reservoir, between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. During the day, different amounts of water will be released, with increasing flow rates, to check how the bed of the Argeş river can take over the evacuated volumes safely. The purpose of the exercise is to test the real conditions of controlled discharge of water, in the context in which, in December, the emptying of the Vidraru dam will begin for the renovation works of the Vidraru Hydropower Plant”announces the prefect of Argeş county Ioana Făcăleaţă, in a post on Facebook.
More than 200 people are in the field, namely representatives of Hidroelectrica, Argeş-Vedea Water Basin Administration, Argeş Police, Argeş Gendarmerie, ISU Argeş, ANPA, Forestry Directorate, Environmental Protection Agency, as well as Arefu and Corbeni town halls, according to News.
“We have established the Command and Coordination Center at Corbeni City Hall, and the area is permanently monitored, both from the ground and from the air, with the help of five drones”states the prefect.
Ioana Făcăleaţă also makes a firm appeal to the residents of the affected areas and to tourists that, for their safety, they should not approach the Argeș riverbed.
Citizens have already been informed about this exercise through public meetings, informative panels, door-to-door announcements, and a Ro-Alert message was also issued on Wednesday morning.
