Ultras in Podgorica, the capital of Montenegro, unleashed a wave of violence on the city's streets after a 25-year-old man was stabbed by a group of men of Turkish origin. The injuries were not fatal.
The fans of Buducnost Podgorica, together with the fans of Zabjelo Podgorica, a team from the second echelon, took to the streets of the city and caused violence and destruction: cars and restaurants were vandalized and beatings, the hatred being directed towards the Turks. “Out with the Turks”, was the message of the ultras, although in the communiqué in which they explained the action they mentioned that it was not motivated by racial hatred.
Violence on the streets of Podgorica. “If the state is not able to defend us, we will defend our sisters and mothers”
The incidents in Podgorica prompted Montenegrin leaders to suspend visa-free access for citizens of Turkish origin to the country. In the case of the stabbing, two suspects have already been detained, as well as 45 other people of Turkish origin who are believed not to have the necessary documents to stay in the country, according to international media. Following last night's violence, eight people were arrested.
The supporters issued a statement in which they try to justify their violent actions and in which they announce the fact that today a large-scale protest will take place in front of the Government.
“Tonight, together with the boys from Zabjelo, we toured the city and said that we will no longer allow armed immigrants to rule the streets of our city, Podgorica.
We note that the action tonight and in the future has nothing to do with the citizens of a particular country, nation or religion.
It only has to do with the events that have happened recently because of migrants raping our women, kidnapping our children, robbing us on the street and walking the street armed. The epilogue was the stabbing of our friend from Zabjelo.
We say that this will not happen again and that if the state is not able to defend us, we will defend our sisters and mothers“, transmitted “Varvari”, the ultras group of those from Buducnost Podgorica.

There must be no room for collective guilt or the stigmatization of an entire people. Montenegro needs a more responsible immigration policy: tough on abuse and crime, fair to all who abide by our laws.
