Putin and Shoigu are looking for volunteers in Russia. This is a reaction to the threat from Ukraine


Critical infrastructure facilities in Russia, such as refineries and defense industry plants, are increasingly attacked by Ukrainians. The authorities of Russia's Nizhnogorod Oblast allegedly took the initiative to create special units to protect such facilities. This was confirmed by former Russian Defense Minister and currently Secretary of Security Sergei Shoigu. At a meeting in the Nizhnogorod region, he said that Vladimir Putin supported this idea.

Threat to Russia's critical infrastructure

Information about Shoigu and Putin's plans regarding volunteer security units appeared on Radio Svoboda's Telegram. This was also reported by the Interfax agency.

According to the secretary of the Russian Security Council, the leadership of the Nizhny Novgorod region came up with such an initiative. This is reportedly one of the regions that have been subjected to frequent Ukrainian drone strikes in recent months.

Sergei Shoigu did not provide details about the composition and mechanism of forming future troops.

Over the last few months, there have been numerous incidents in Russia. Among other things, in the Nizhnygorod Oblast, at the beginning of October, one of the largest Russian enterprises producing explosives was attacked – the Sverdlov Plant, located in the Russian city of Dzerzhinsk. As stated in the statement of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the aim was to weaken the enemy's offensive capabilities and its ability to conduct missile and bomb strikes.
