Hungary dependent on Russian raw materials. Viktor Orban wants the sanctions to be lifted

During talks in Rome, Viktor Orban met with Pope Leo XIV and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. In an interview with the Italian daily newspapers “Il Messaggero” and “La Repubblica”, he expressed his opinion on the role of the European Union in global issues. He stated that the EU does not play any significant role in matters relating to security or relations between Russia and Ukraine. Orban said that responsibility in this matter rests solely with the United States and Russia.
The Hungarian Prime Minister announced that he would soon go to Donald Trump to raise the topic of sanctions imposed on Russia. He emphasized that his country is largely dependent on Russian gas and oil, which makes this issue particularly important for Hungary. In an interview with the Italian press, he said that he intended to actively work to change the sanctions policy.
Orban also expressed skepticism about the current position of the European Union. According to him, the community is “out of the game” on key issues regarding future security and international relations. The Hungarian Prime Minister emphasized that the lack of an active role of the EU in building future relations between Russia and Ukraine is a serious problem.
