A gas pipe was cracked in the municipality of Slatina by the workers of a company replacing the water supply network. The incident occurred on Monday, October 27, 2025, on Aleea Infratirii street. ISU Olt announced that the eviction of the tenants was not required.

“The firefighters of the Slatina Detachment intervene on Aleea Infrătirii street in the municipality of Slatina, with a fire truck, a CBRN truck (chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear), a SMURD crew and a truck for first intervention, to ensure specific measures following the cracking of a gas pipe, produced during some work on the water network.
The Distrigaz crews stopped the gas supply, and the evacuation of the tenants was not necessary”stated the spokesperson of ISU Olt, Alin Băsășteanu.
The mayor of the municipality, Mario De Mezzo, stated in his turn that the team of the company carrying out the works to replace the water network touched the gas pipe with a machine, causing the crack.

“I arrived there shortly after the intervention teams of Distrigaz and ISU Olt, who assured me that the gas pipeline was isolated and that there were no gas leaks at ground level. They also informed me that the situation is under control and there is no need to evacuate the residents of the area. I have asked all those responsible to ensure that they will remedy the situation during the day today, without syncopation in the gas supply to the residents of the area and without incident. Thank you ISU Olt for the exemplary mobilization on site and for monitoring the situation, thank you Distrigaz for the quick intervention”the mayor sent, in a message posted on his social media account.

During this period, extensive works are being carried out at the municipal level to replace the old water and canal network, with the Olt Water Company having several ongoing contracts. Works are being carried out on several streets: Fântânilor street, Nicolae Titulescu boulevard, Infrațiirii street, Ionașcu street, Drăgănnești street, Sergent Major Dorobanțu Constantin street.
