Liverpool suffered their fourth consecutive Premier League defeat, 2-3 away to Brentford, and are 6th in the table.
Returned from Frankfurt with a spectacular victory, 5-1 against Eintracht, Liverpool again capitulated in the Premier League. 4th time in a row!
Liverpool did not have the strength for a comeback
Brentford took the champions on top and in the 45th minute were leading 2-0 thanks to goals from Outtara (5) and Schade (45). Kerkez reduced the handicap until the break (45+5), however Liverpool did not have enough strength for a comeback.
Thiago gave him another shot from the penalty (min. 60), and Salah could only reduce the handicap in the end (89). Final score: 3-2. Asked if this was the worst performance of his tenure at Liverpool, manager Arne Slot confirmed.
Arne Slot: “We didn't even do the basic things right”
“Yes. I think so. In my time here. In terms of losing a game. After we were 1-0 down, that was the only moment I really enjoyed. It's disappointing again. We were hoping that if we won in the middle of the week, we would now have a better result.
I was hoping and expecting a better performance. This was far from what we are used to. Even though we lost before, our performances were better than tonight. We didn't even do the basic things right,” commented the “hot” Dutch technician.
Arne Slot: “We didn't find an answer to the opponents' style”
It was the second weekend in a row that Liverpool were the “victim” of the opposition's long passes, with Slot noting that “the opposing teams have a certain style of play against us, which is a very good strategy to play against us.
And I haven't found an answer yet. Being 1-0 up after five minutes doesn't help. Teams know what strategy to apply against us then“.
Brentford supporters on Florian Wirtz switch: 'Wasted money, wasted money'
The second most expensive acquisition of the champion, Florian Wirtz, made a modest game again.
Arne Slot took him off the pitch in the 83rd minute, with the score 1-3, at which point the Brentford fans did not miss the opportunity to humiliate him and started chanting: “Wasted money, wasted money”.
