The race at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez is 71 laps long and traditionally completes with just one pit stop. The Italians from Pirelli, the tire manufacturer, said that the fastest strategy would be a start on medium tires until laps 42-48, and then a change to soft tires.
Data collected during practice shows that hard tires are approximately 0.9 seconds per lap slower than soft tires in race conditions. At the same time, the speed difference between soft and medium slicks is only 0.26 seconds. Hard tires are of C2 compound, and medium and soft are C4 and C5 respectively.
