The interim president of the PSD, Sorin Grindeanu, stated that he wants Titus Corlăţean to be part of his team, which will be elected at the Congress on November 7. He mentioned that he had a discussion in this regard with the former Minister of Foreign Affairs, informs News.ro.

Sorin Grindeanu was asked, on Friday, in a press conference held in Târgovişte, if Titus Corlăţean still remains in the PSD.

“I am convinced that yes. I had a discussion with Titus a few days ago. He was at my place, I invited him, I asked him to have this discussion. I told him that I want him to be part of my team and the offer remains open even now. I told him that the fact that we have known each other for 25 years from TSD, from the Social-Democrat Youth, and we had a lot of things and electoral, political battles, together gives us both the background necessary to overcome certain, perhaps, annoyances. My offer remains open and Titus knows this and I wish, after a period he considers necessary, to become active again in the leadership of the party, I would be happy for him to do so”, declared Sorin Grindeanu.

Titus Corlățean was the only social democrat who intended to run against Sorin Grindeanu for the position of party president, at the PSD Congress on November 7, but on October 13 he announced his withdrawal from the competition for PSD leadership.

“I have drawn a painful but necessary conclusion: under the current conditions, my project is not possible. I am ending this journey after 24 years of loyalty to the party, with my forehead held high. I do not regret anything. Romania needs a different direction. And we deserve more,” said Corlățean in a video message sent on Facebook on Monday.

Titus Corlățean represented the conservative wing of PSD, and among his supporters were senator Robert Cazanciuc and Constantin Toma, the mayor of Buzău.

Two days later, Sorin Grindeanu invited Corlățean to a discussion in his office as president of the Chamber of Deputies. After this meeting, the PSD senator stated, in a post on Facebook, that he does not intend to leave for another party or cause a split within the PSD

“With or without a party card (I'll tell you when I decide), I've been, ideologically and as a social sensibility, for good and especially when it's hard, in all the years, a social democrat. And I haven't changed. So all this rich imagination or interpretations related to the breakup of the PSD, the creation of another party, going to I don't know what other formation or to other former colleagues, etc… do not stand. I simply never put the problem in these terms”. wrote Titus Corlățean in a post on Facebook.
