Marcel Ciolacu, in Buzău on Saturday to ask for the support of the PSD organization to run in the local elections on December 7

The Social Democratic Party Buzău is organizing, on Saturday, the Extraordinary County Conference for the appointment of delegates who will represent the organization at the PSD National Congress, scheduled for November 7. The event takes place at the Great Hall of the Buzău CJ in the presence of the interim president of the party, Sorin Grindeanu, and former prime minister Marcel Ciolacu, who returned to Buzău and intends to run for the head of the County Council, reports News.ro.
Marcel Ciolacu conveyed to his colleagues from PSD Buzău his intention to run for the position of president of the Buzău County Council, following the vacancy of the position after the departure of Lucian Romaşcanu to the European Court of Accounts in Luxembourg.
The Buzău County Council is headed, starting July 1, by the vice-president Adrian Petre, who provides the interim until the organization of the elections on December 7.
Contacted by HotNews on Tuesday about his possible candidacy, Marcel Ciolacu said that the decision will be taken at the county conference of the PSD Buzău organization.
On the other hand, political sources told HotNews that Marcel Ciolacu will be the candidate for the presidency of the County Council.
On December 7, partial local elections will be organized in Bucharest, for the Buzău County Council and in 12 municipalities.
The position of president of the Buzău County Council remained vacant after Lucian Romașcanu was appointed a member of the European Court of Auditors.
The government approved on Thursday that the elections for the general mayor of the city of Bucharest, for the president of the Buzău County Council and for the mayors of 12 other localities will take place on Sunday, December 7, 2025.
The candidacies for the position of general mayor of the Capital and for the president of the Buzău County Council can be submitted between November 12-17, according to the electoral calendar.
