decision to dissolve the party on November 15

The Polish Initiative, alongside the Civic Platform, Nowoczesna and the Greens, co-creates the Civic Coalition. This Saturday, three of these groups – PO, Nowoczesna and iPL – are to begin the process of formally merging into one party.
On Thursday, the board of Inicjatywa Polska approved the date of the congress during which party members are to decide on its dissolution. Dariusz Joński emphasized that the meeting was scheduled for November 15. In turn, Nowoczesna, which is also to become part of the new grouping, will make its decision on this matter on Friday, during the national convention.
On Saturday, the so-called “unification convention”, which will formally be the national convention of the Civic Platform. During it, it is planned to adopt a new party statute and announce a new name, which will most likely be Civic Coalition.
The Polish Initiative was founded in 2016 as an association by politicians previously associated with Your Movement and the Democratic Left Alliance. The formation of the group was a response to the defeat of the United Left in the 2015 parliamentary elections. Four years later, in 2019, Inicjatywa Polska transformed into a political party and joined the Civic Coalition as one of its four members.
The party is led by Barbara Nowacka, the current Minister of Education. This formation is represented in the Sejm by two MPs – apart from Nowacka, also Katarzyna Piekarska. Both belong to the Civic Coalition parliamentary club.
