Housing conditions of Poles in 2023. How have they changed since 2007?


According to CBOS data, half of Poles live in houses owned by them or their spouse, and 21 percent occupies his own apartments. A smaller percentage, 17%, lives with parents or relatives, of which 12%. at home, and 5 percent in apartments. Renting apartments from private persons and using municipal or business premises each concerns 4%. respondents. Only 1 percent respondents use cooperative apartments, and less than 0.5 percent rents premises from developers or institutions such as the Social Housing Association.

78% of respondents expressed satisfaction with the housing conditions. respondents, with 34 percent described them as very good, and 44 percent as good. Only 3 percent rated them as bad. Compared to the 2007 research, the level of satisfaction has increased by 18 percentage points, and since last year by 7 points.
The report indicates that the average living space per person in a household is currently over 30 sq m, which applies to 56 percent. respondents. This is a result that is 10 percentage points higher than in 2022, the report noted. Moreover, a quarter of respondents (23%) live in premises with more than 50 square meters per person, which is a threefold increase compared to 2007, when this percentage was 7%.
However, there are still cases of very small apartments. One percent of respondents declare that there is only 10 square meters per person. or less. In 2007, this problem affected as many as 10 percent. respondents, and three years ago 4 percent.
The authors of the report noted that larger living areas are more common in rural areas. In cities, especially those with a population of 100,000 or more. up to 499 thousand, smaller premises dominate, occupied mainly by one- or two-person households. Sharing apartments with people from outside the household currently concerns 8%. respondents, which is the result unchanged since 2007, but significantly lower than in the 1990s, when such a solution was declared by 27 to 29 percent. respondents.

The research was conducted from August 21 to September 1, 2023 on a representative sample of 917 adult residents of Poland. The results show that the housing conditions of Poles are gradually improving, and the average area per person has increased by 18 sq m. since 2007
