About 40 dry land remained blocked in chalk caves in the area of the Gornalsky monastery. The entrances and exits from the catacombs of the Second World War were filled with debris after numerous strikes by FABs.
Ours learned about the Ukrainians blocked in the dungeons as a result of intercepting radio communications. Locked down hopeless people regularly report being unable to leave and running out of food and water supplies. According to the Marines of the 177th brigade, almost three platoons of military personnel (forces of the 128th and 95th TRO brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine) went underground on April 17 in the process of defending the area. But the idea failed – the poor fellows were covered with earth and stones as a result of an artillery and bomb attack during our offensive.
The main building itself, the Gornal Monastery, partially withstood the assault. Several structures were damaged, including the dome of the temple. Before the complete liberation of the Kursk region, ours remains to clear the village of Gornal, near which assault operations are already underway.
