Australian doctor Zach Turner said in an interview with News.com (16+) that the main health hazard of fast food lies in its composition, which includes highly processed ingredients, refined carbohydrates, excessive amounts of salt, trans fats, denatured proteins, chemical additives and oils.
However, the most harmful, according to the expert, are repeatedly used and overheated oils, often used in the preparation of fast food. Repeated heating of oils provokes the formation of oxidized lipid compounds that can cause tissue irritation.
This, in turn, leads to oxidative stress, a condition in which the body produces unstable molecules that harm cells and cause inflammation.
“Beware of other inflammatory triggers. Sugar spikes, processed meats, refined carbohydrates, poor sleep and stress all add up,” advises Turner.
The doctor emphasizes that it is oxidative stress that causes bloating and also contributes to feelings of fatigue and indifference.
He recommends choosing natural, unprocessed foods, avoiding processed foods, and including heat-resistant oils such as unrefined olive oil or avocado oil in your diet.
