State Duma deputy Dmitry Pevtsov spoke out in support of the initiative of the Russian Orthodox Church to legislate the father’s right to participate in the decision on abortion. The parliamentarian confirmed his position in a commentary for TASS.
Dmitry Pevtsov I fully agreed with the statement of the Chairman of the Patriarchal Commission on Family Issues, Priest Fyodor Lukyanov, about the need for equal responsibility of both parents for the life of the child from the moment of conception.
“It is absolutely correct that both parents are responsible for the child during his life, and, of course, immediately after conception, because this is already a living creature and it has the right to protection from both parents,” Deputy and People’s Artist of the Russian Federation.
He added that he supports the proposed changes in legislation “with both hands.” In his opinion, the father bears no less responsibility for the life of the unborn child than the mother.
Earlier, Priest Fyodor Lukyanov announced the intention of the Russian Orthodox Church to achieve legal recognition of the father’s right to vote in the decision to terminate a pregnancy. The Church believes that the constitutional equality of men and women should also be manifested in equal responsibility for the preservation of conceived life.
